NFPA Certified Electrical Safety Technician (CEST)

The NFPA Certified Electrical Safety Technician is an electrical safety credential for skilled workers who are exposed to electrical hazards with their job duties.

NFPA Certified Electrical Safety Technician (CEST)

The NFPA Certified Electrical Safety Technician (CEST) is an electrical safety credential for skilled workers who are exposed to electrical hazards in their job duties.  Prime candidates are HVAC technicians, solar and wind generator installers/maintainers, others jobs that work around dangerous electrical equipment.

NFPA Certified Electrical Safety Technician | (CEST)

Exam Requirements

  

Qualifying for the Certified Electrical Safety Technician (CEST) Exam

A candidate for the CEST certification must have the following qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • 6 hours of training on NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace within the past 2 years


The CEST application can be completed online by going to the CMS at http://onlinecertification.nfpa.org/nfpassa  each apprentice has 12 months after they are accepted as an applicant to take and pass the exam.



 Taking the Certified Electrical Safety Technician (CEST) Exam

Candidates will be able to take the exam after their application to NFPA has been approved and the testing fees have been paid.


The CEST Exam is a 3-hour, 110 multiple-choice question exam. The exam is open-book so candidates can bring a copy of the 2021 NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace to their exam. The exam is available in a computer-based format at test centers throughout the world; a proctored online version is also available.

  

The exam is available worldwide at Prometric’s in-person computer-based testing facilities or via online remote proctoring.

Type of Work - Electrical Safety for Technicians

Passing a NFPA Certified Electrical Safety Technician Exam indicates that Completion of the credential and highlights an individual’s knowledge of and ability to apply the principles found in the NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.
